Research Memo #3
For the first media example I used the song airbrush magazine by Paige Armstrong. In this song it talks about a regular girl who hides behind her makeup and all she wants to her is someone telling her is beautiful. She does not think she is beautiful like the girls she sees on television and magazines. This song talks about the struggles girls go though everyday of not thinking they are good enough because they do not look like the girls on TV and magazines.
For my second media I used a clip from an episode of Dr. Phil. Amy is a20 year’s old girl suffering though anorexia and bulimia, she is also considered a binge eater. She has had this disorder for 16years. She sees herself as very fat and very ugly. She was so scared to gain weight she would not wash or brush her teeth fearing there was calories it the toothpaste and that the water would seep thought her skin and make her hold water. She would even take throw up and put it in her mouth so that she was get sick and throw up. It is so bad she throws up to 150 times a day.
I original heard this song in church but it is not just a Christian band, but they really help someone she just how bad an eating order can get. The song is called sing me a love song again by Barlow Girl. In this video it shows a girl in the CSU (Crisis Stabilization Unit). She looks very thin, and people are making fun of her. Her father is forcing her to eat and her mother is trying to calm her by telling her it’s ok. She gets upset and goes up to her room where she is looking into a mirror and seeing that she is fat. Her life goes on and she sees that she is not fat and she is beautiful. The tension is thick in the air Making it hard to see I fear what is to com And what will become of me I say a prayer help me not run away Will you please hold me”.
